Following yesterday’s meeting and the press release issued by the Municipality of Genoa, Assarmatori, Assagenti, CLIA, Confindustria Genova – Terminal Operators Section, and Confitarma are not available to take part in the technical working group concerning the introduction of a municipal surcharge on port embarkation fees.
The associations remain open to resuming dialogue when discussions are focused on the substance of the proposed measures — their rationale, critical issues, and possible alternatives — rather than solely on their implementation, as appears from the communication issued by Palazzo Tursi.
Shipping companies and terminal operators cannot be regarded merely as tax collectors on behalf of the Municipality of Genoa, particularly with reference to areas of the port under the administrative jurisdiction of the Port System Authority. We call on the Municipal Administration to refrain from adopting any formal measures without further substantive consultations.
