Stefano Messina confirmed at the helm of Assarmatori. Top team renewed: four new members join the executive council

Stefano Messina will serve as President of Assarmatori for the 2026–2030 four-year term. The decision was taken by the General Assembly of the shipowners’ association, which met this morning at its headquarters in Via del Babuino, Rome.

The appointment was unanimously approved by the Members, after last autumn the Nomination Committee – chaired by Franco Del Giudice and composed of Stefano Beduschi and Franco Ronzi – had reached the same conclusion following an in-depth consultation process with the Members themselves. In this context, the Assembly opened with the report of the outgoing President and Executive Council and with an update of the Association’s bylaws aimed at enhancing efficiency and effectiveness standards.

On the same occasion, the Executive Council of Assarmatori was renewed. Stefano Beduschi, Gaudenzio Bonaldo Gregori, Matteo Catani, Franco Del Giudice, Mariaceleste Lauro, Luigi Merlo, Achille Onorato, Salvatore Ravenna, Vincenzo Romeo and Pasquale Russo were confirmed. Joining the governing body, reflecting the growth and strengthening of the Association since its foundation in 2018, are Luigi Cafiero, Giacomo Gavarone, Corrado Neri and Ivanhoe Romin. The two outgoing Vice Presidents, Achille Onorato and Vincenzo Romeo, were confirmed, alongside Franco Del Giudice. Alberto Rossi remains Secretary General and Giovanni Consoli Deputy Secretary General, leading the Association’s structure at its headquarters in Rome and its offices in Genoa and Brussels.

“I am grateful for the proposal put forward by my colleagues, who assessed the work carried out in recent years and the national and international standing of our Association, starting with the structure we have succeeded in growing and consolidating, also thanks to the skills and expertise contributed by the many member companies involved in this ambitious project,” commented Stefano Messina. “However, there is no time for self-celebration. The course we have set still presents many waves to navigate. Among the priorities we will focus on in the coming months are the need to revise the European Union’s misguided and counterproductive environmental sustainability policies, further streamline the bureaucratic framework governing maritime transport, enhance human resources, and foster the development of our industry with a view to strengthening Italy’s historic maritime vocation.”
